"Best eSIM for a Euro trip?"

Never pay roaming fees! I highly recommend getting an Airalo eSIM or local SIMs. But I'm still a bit torn on the exact brand to choose.

I am traveling to France, Italy, and Germany next month for 15 days. What are the best options for data? I need reliable coverage for Google Maps, translation apps, and occasional video calls back home. Are there any specific local carriers or pan-European eSIM brands you guys prefer over Airalo? Thanks in advance!

Definitely go with Orange Holiday Europe if you are hitting multiple countries. You get a French phone number which is super useful for restaurant reservations, and it includes unlimited calls/texts within Europe. The 5G coverage in Italy and Germany was flawless for me last month. Way better latency than Airalo.

Bro, Orange is kinda pricey though. It's like €39.99 for 14 days right? Is there a cheaper alternative if I literally only need data and don't care about a local number?

@BudgetBackpacker If u only need data, check out Bouygues Telecom's eSIM. They often run promos for €34.99 for 30GB. Sparks or MobiMatter are also cheap aggregators but beware of the ping.

Just a heads up for anyone buying Orange or Bouygues: French law requires identity verification (KYC). You'll need to upload a photo of your passport online within 30 days of activation, otherwise they cut your line. Keep your passport handy!

If you end up using Airalo anyway, make sure to install it BEFORE you leave your home country on Wi-Fi. Sometimes it requires a network connection to activate the profile, which defeats the purpose if you land without Wi-Fi at the airport!

Omg thanks for the heads up! I would have totally waited until I landed. Quick question: Does Airalo have bad lag? I heard video calls stutter.

@Travel Q&A Lounge Yes, the Airalo "Eurolink" regional plan often routes your traffic through servers in Poland or Israel, so your ping will be around 150-200ms. It's fine for Maps or WhatsApp text, but FaceTime might drop resolution a bit. Don't try playing competitive games on it lol.
